Pakistan-Afghanistan Relations Strained by Lack of Trust: Expert
Earlier, Pakistan has made a decision to deport all undocumented foreigners from its territory and began sending them back on November 1.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan are far from satisfactory primarily due to the absence of trust, Syed Abrar Hussain, the former Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan and Vice President of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in Islamabad, told Sputnik.
Hussain further highlighted that
Kabul has struggled to exert sufficient control over Pakistani militants and other extremist elements, who continue to carry out attacks in Pakistan, despite the formation of a government by the
Taliban* movement.
Hussain urged Pakistan to stay committed to its economic projects aimed at assisting the Afghan people, while emphasizing the need for Kabul to prevent its territory from being used as a planning or launching ground for attacks on Pakistan.
Recent strain in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations has been triggered by terrorist attacks in Pakistan as well as border disputes. Pakistan asserts that
the Afghan Taliban have failed to eradicate safe havens for anti-Pakistan militant groups.
*The Taliban is under UN sanctions for extremism.
