Indian Army Conducts Artillery Drills in Freezing Himalayas
The Indian Armed Forces regularly conduct drills in mountainous terrain to keep themselves combat-ready. One such exercise took place on Monday.
Amid freezing temperatures in the higher reaches of the Himalayas, the Indian Army conducted an exercise involving artillery as part of its operational readiness manoeuvres in the Ladakh region.
The military drills were conducted near the Zojila Pass in the Ladakh region, where temperatures during the harsh winter months of December and January dip to -30 degrees Celsius.
At present, day-time temperature in the area is hovering around 2-3°C, which
drops to around -5°C at night.
"Amidst the frozen whispers of high altitudes, Thunderbolt Gunners of Dhruva Command forge thunderstorms by honing skills beyond Zojila Pass to refine professional skills and enhance operational readiness," the Indian Army's Northern command said in a post shared alongside the video of the exercises on X.
In the video, the Indian Army's
15 Medium Regiment, known as the '
Batalik Bombers', could be seen firing artillery shells on set targets amid a backdrop of
snow-capped mountains.
For the unversed, the Zojila Pass is crucial to India's security needs, given that it connects Ladakh to Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
