Reports indicate that Myanmar soldiers are currently being sheltered at the Assam rifles camp in India. The Indian foreign ministry is in talks with the Myanmar military government to facilitate the soldiers' return to Myanmar.
At least 151 Myanmar soldiers have sought refuge in India's Mizoram following the takeover of their military camps by Arakan Army fighters, a rebel group, multiple Indian media outlets reported.
Preliminary reports said that the Burmese Tatmadaw soldiers arrived on Friday and said that they had an intense gunfight with the Arakan Army near the Indian border. Some of the soldiers were seriously injured and were provided medical treatment.
The media also reported that some of the soldiers might seek political asylum in India.
Earlier in November, 104 Myanmar soldiers sought refuge in Mizoram after their camps were overrun by the People's Defence Force (PDF), a pro-democracy militia. Later, the Indian Air Force airlifted them back to Myanmar via the nearest border town, Tamu.
