India will begin exporting ground systems for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile within the next ten days, with the missiles themselves anticipated to be launched by March of this year, The Chairman of the DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat told ANI news agency on Thursday.
‘The first batch of BrahMos missile systems should arrive in the Philippines by the end of March’, he added, in what is the biggest defence export deal India has ever inked with a foreign nation.
India and the Philippines in January 2022 inked a
$375 million agreement for the sale of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile's shore-based anti-ship version.
"I am sure over the coming years exports are going to become a very important part of our portfolio," Kamat stated. "So far, a lot of our hull-mounted sonars, lightweight torpedo, we have exported radars, we have now a lot of interested (countries) on Pinaka among others”.
Additionally, Kamat stated that the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) had granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) or incorporated around Rs 4.94 lakh crore i.e., $ 5.4 Billion worth of
DRDO-developed equipment in Defence.A joint venue between India and Russia, the BrahMos missile system, stands out as one of the most successful missile programs globally. Acknowledged for its remarkable versatility and precision, BrahMos has significantly bolstered India's deterrence capabilities in the 21st century.
