The Pakistani interior ministry announced a temporary nationwide suspension of mobile phone services on Thursday for election day, stating the necessity to "ensure law and order."
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Pakistani interior ministry emphasized the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives in recent attacks in Pakistan.
"It has been decided to temporarily suspend the mobile service across the country," a ministry spokesman said in a statement.
On Wednesday, Daesh* claimed responsibility for two bomb blasts outside candidates' offices in southwestern Pakistan, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 28 lives.
They stressed that implementing security measures is crucial to uphold peace and stability, as well as effectively address any looming threats.
When the polls opened at 8:00 am (0300 GMT) in Islamabad on Thursday, locals reported that they were unable to use mobile internet services across the southern city of Karachi.
