The Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, have brought massive reforms in all its sectors. Another key announcement in this regard was made recently.
The Indian Army launched its new procurement app called "ProMo" in New Delhi on Tuesday.
"Indian Army launched a Procurement Monitoring Application ProMo to accentuate the capital procurement process. The application will provide near real-time visibility of Capital Procurement to all stakeholders. All the activities, enshrined in the Defence Acquisition Procedure, have been mapped into the application," the Army said in a statement.
The app is expected to change the way the Indian Army procures military equipment.
According to Major (Retd) Mohommed Ali Shah the ProMo app would "most certainly" plug gaps in the procurement process of the Indian Army.
"Firstly, the ProMo app, or the Procurement Monitoring Application as it stands for envisages to fasten the acquisition of military equipment for the Indian Army," Shah told Sputnik India on Thursday.

Defense Procurement – Tedious Process in India

The military pundit explained that if one looks at the defense procurement procedure, one would find that it is a cumbersome process. Beginning with the tendering process which is followed by the Request for Information (RFI) leading to the bidding process to field trials and finally the vetting, acquiring weapons is a time-consuming process in India.
Additionally, people want to be careful while dealing with defense procurement because they could be accused of corruption, which may not be the case many times.

"However, when you have a transparent system for everyone to see for defense procurement which is also digitized - I believe most certainly this initiative is in line with the Indian government's larger effort to modernize and digitize the Armed Forces," the retired Indian Army officer added.

The ProMo app has the potential to greatly increase the Indian Army's ability to quickly and effectively obtain the equipment it requires, which enhances overall operational readiness, he concluded.
