During a meeting with Pakistan's newly-appointed High Commissioner, Rabia Shafiq, President Zardari underlined the importance of exploring avenues for the export of Pakistani food and agricultural products to Singapore.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday urged Singapore's High Commissioner to Pakistan to focus on enhancing bilateral trade and business ties with Singaporean companies.
He emphasised the importance of encouraging Singaporean companies to take advantage of Pakistan's investment-friendly policies.

During a meeting with Pakistan's newly-appointed High Commissioner, Rabia Shafiq, President Zardari underlined the importance of exploring avenues for the export of Pakistani food and agricultural products to Singapore.

He suggested that Pakistan could potentially serve as a reliable source of food supplies for Singapore by exporting processed foods such as poultry, meat, seafood, and others.

He also stressed the importance of exploring opportunities to export Pakistan's skilled labour to Singapore and to promote bilateral cooperation in the information technology and agriculture sectors.

President Zardari congratulated Rabia Shafiq on her appointment as Pakistan's High Commissioner and wished her a fruitful and successful tenure in Singapore.

According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC) World, Singapore recorded significant net trade with Pakistan in 2022, particularly in exports of mineral products ($495 million), chemical products ($218 million) and machinery ($111 million).

On the other hand, Pakistan had significant net trade with Singapore in 2022, particularly in exports of mineral products ($77.1 million), textiles ($28.9 million) and food ($9.49 million).
