BRICS Expansion Made Grouping More Dynamic, India Says
The comments from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs came at the time of a growing chorus across multiple regions of the world, especially in Asia, where several nations have publicly stated their desire to join BRICS.
The expansion of BRICS has made the powerful economic bloc more dynamic, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
"The expansion of BRICS has made it even more dynamic. New members have joined us, which reflects the current realities of our time. India has always been a staunch supporter of multilateralism. It is for this reason that in various multilateral forums such as the G20, BRICS, UN, WTO, India together with other like-minded countries, seeks to create a more representative and multilateral global governance architecture," Abhishek Singh, who is the head of the Department of Economic Relations of the MEA, said during his address at the conference "Advancing the multifaceted BRICS Agenda" in New Delhi.
Singh suggested that the multifaceted agenda of BRICS will need
promotion at many levels.
"Advancing the multifaceted BRICS agenda will require action on multiple fronts. First, this can be facilitated by promoting trade and investment among the BRICS countries by lowering trade barriers and strengthening economic partnerships. Second, in view of growing global challenges and an ever-changing geopolitical landscape, multilateralism must be strengthened," he noted before highlighting that India reckons that there should be a lot of thrust on reforming international organizations like the United Nations (UN).
This includes the expansion of the UN Security Council's permanent membership, as well as reforms in other multilateral institutions including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"Advancing the diverse BRICS agenda is critical to creating a more inclusive, fair and sustainable world. Our collective efforts, along with economic growth and political cooperation, social and cultural exchanges, innovation and sustainable development, can have a lasting positive impact. As we move forward Moving forward, it is critical that we continue to strengthen our partnerships, harness our collective strengths and address global challenges together. We are a symbol of change and must act accordingly," Singh stressed.
The comments of the representative of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs come at the time of a growing chorus across multiple regions of the world, especially in Asia where many nations have publicly stated their desire to join BRICS.
