Remaining S-400 Units to Be Delivered to India by Next Year: Russian Envoy
India already operates three units of the Russian S-400 air defence system as part of a $5 billion deal inked in 2018.
Two remaining regiments of S-400 surface-to-air missile regiments will be delivered on-schedule by next year, Russian deputy ambassador Roman Babushkin said on Monday.
"The contract for the remaining S-400 units will be according to the schedule. We are open for a promotion of this partnership for the discussion of the expansion of dialogue on air defence system," Babushkin told the Press Trust of India (PTI). "I think it will be done in 2025, 2026."
The S-400 has earned immense praise from Indian Armed Forces veterans and citizens alike for its stellar performance during
Operation Sindoor, India's counter-terrorism mission against Pakistan, last month.
The widely acclaimed anti-aircraft missile platform even received rich plaudits from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the Indian leader
hailing it for neutralising waves of Pakistani swarm drones and missiles during the four days of military hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours from May 7 to 10.
Like Modi, Babushkin highlighted the S-400's stellar showing during Operation Sindoor.
"We heard that S-400 performed very efficiently during the situation between India and Pakistan," Babushkin added.
The S-400 can track and destroy a
wide variety of aerial threats including fighter aircraft, missiles, helicopter, and Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) at a range of up to 400 kilometers.
