India Shaping Global Framework for Ethical and Human-Centric AI: Modi
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already impacting millions across the globe, marking a sea-change in how white-collar workers do their jobs.
India is shaping the global framework for ethical and human-centric artificial intelligence (AI), which could transform millions of lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
"Today, India is shaping the global framework for ethical and human-centric AI," Modi told the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave 2025, adding that the forthcoming coming AI Governance Framework would be a major step in that direction.
"Its aim is to develop innovation and safety together," Modi said. "When India hosts the Global AI Summit in February next year, efforts towards inclusive, ethical, and human-centric AI will gain new momentum."
India uses AI in a wide variety of sectors, including defence, policing and public services, making
it acase study in how to harness scientific development for the betterment of mankind.
During the military
Operation Sindoor against Pakistan earlier this year, the Indian Army said it used 23 indigenous AI applications.
"AI was extensively used for multi-sensor data fusion and multi-source data fusion in real time during Operation Sindoor," Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Lieutenant General Rajiv Kumar Sahni said last month. "Overall, 23 apps with specific tasks were used to deal with data and inputs."
The army used AI in multi-sensor data fusion, weather-based planning, threat assessment and precision targeting.
