India boasts the third-largest civil aviation market in the world, which is the fastest-growing on the planet, with an annual growth rate of nearly 9% over the last decade, according to government estimates.
Federal Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu unveiled India's next-generation civil helicopter on Tuesday, named Dhruv-NG, at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) complex in Bengaluru.

Soon after the inauguration ceremony, the minister took the helicopter's maiden flight at the state-run aviation behemoth's facility in the capital of Karnataka state.

Designed, developed and produced by HAL, the Dhruv-NG is a twin-engine multi-role helicopter weighing 5.5 tonnes.
"The helicopter features a world-class, civil-certified glass cockpit, compliant with AS4 requirements, and a modern avionics suite for superior situational awareness," the company said.
With a range of 630 km, it can operate at a top speed of 285 km/h with a maximum take-off weight of 5,500 kg.

Additionally, the Dhruv-NG commands a service ceiling of 6,000 metres and an endurance of about 3 hours and 40 minutes.
