Selective Targeting of India Unfair & Unjustified: Jaishankar Tells Polish Deputy PM
14:01 19.01.2026 (Updated: 15:01 19.01.2026) The Indian External Affairs Minister (EAM) also urged the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister not to "help fuel" terrorist infrastructure in the Indian neighbourhood.
EAM Jaishankar told his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski on Monday that India shouldn't be "selectively targeted" over its stance on the Ukraine Conflict. The Indian top diplomat made the remarks during a meeting at New Delhi's Hyderabad House. Sikorski is on a three-day visit to India which concludes later in the day.
"In the recent past, both in New York last September and in Paris this January, I have candidly shared our views on the Ukraine conflict and its implications. While doing so, I have also repeatedly underlined that the selective targeting of India is both unfair and unjustified," Jaishankar said in his opening remarks.
I do so again today, he stated.
This month alone, the Polish Deputy PM has on two occasions stated that he has been pleased with the reduction of India's reduction of Russian oil imports. At the
India-Weimar Format Meeting in Paris earlier this month, Sikorski made the comment at a joint presser attended the three European top diplomats and Jaishankar. A press release by the Polish government said at the time that "reduction of Russian oil imports by India" was an important item on the agenda.
At the Jaipur Literature Festival on Sunday, Sikorski made the same comment in an interview to an Indian publication.
The Polish diplomat's comments haven't gone down well in India, as suggested by critical reactions to these remarks on social media platforms.
During Monday's meeting, Jaishankar also said that India would like to discuss some of Sikorski's recent travels to the region, an apparent reference to his visit to Pakistan last October.
"Poland should display zero tolerance towards terrorism and not help fuel terrorist infrastructure in our neighbourhoods," Jaishankar said.
