Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held their first telephone call since the Iran-US MoU was signed on 17 June, according to Indian and Iranian government readouts issued late on Tuesday.“There is tremendous potential to enhance cooperation in political, economic, commercial, transit, and international affairs,” Pezeshkian told Modi, while stating Iran's commitment to deepen ties with India.During the call, PM Modi extended condolences on behalf of the Indian government and the people on the killing of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khameini and other Iranian citizens during the US-Iran war, the Iranian Embassy said.Modi expressed hope that the BRICS Summit would contribute to further strengthen multilateral cooperation among the member countries, according to the Iranian readout.Pezeshkian also hoped that intra-BRICS cooperation between India and Iran would continue to expand, as he expressed satisfaction with the recent BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Delhi. The joint communique issued after the meeting described energy cooperation as the “cornerstone” of BRICS cooperation. The BRICS gathering was attended by Iranian Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad, who also held a meeting to discuss energy cooperation with his Indian counterpart Hardeep Singh Puri on the sidelines.The two leaders also discussed the Iran-US MoU at some length during their conversation, with Pezeshkian stressing the importance of all parties adhering to their commitments and obligations to the MoU. The Iranian President also said that it was important for the international community to work to “consolidate the process”.It said that Modi welcomed the understanding reached between Iran and the US and reiterated Delhi’s consistent stance on resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

Indian PM Narendra Modi told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that India would send a “special delegation” to the state funeral of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held their first telephone call since the Iran-US MoU was signed on 17 June, according to Indian and Iranian government readouts issued late on Tuesday.
Pezeshkian called for establishing “greater coordination” with India to strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as in international affairs, an Iranian Embassy readout said.
“There is tremendous potential to enhance cooperation in political, economic, commercial, transit, and international affairs,” Pezeshkian told Modi, while stating Iran's commitment to deepen ties with India.
During the call, PM Modi extended condolences on behalf of the Indian government and the people on the killing of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khameini and other Iranian citizens during the US-Iran war, the Iranian Embassy said.
Modi told Pezeshkian that India would be sending a “special delegation” for the state funeral of the Supreme Leader from 4 to 9 July.
Further, the Indian PM extended a formal invitation to the Iranian President to attend the upcoming BRICS Summit to be hosted by India, the Iranian statement noted.
Modi expressed hope that the BRICS Summit would contribute to further strengthen multilateral cooperation among the member countries, according to the Iranian readout.

Meanwhile, the statement by the Indian Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Pezeshkian briefed Modi on recent developments in West Asia and the way forward.

welcomed the understanding reached between Iran and the US and reiterated Delhi’s consistent stance on resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
“Prime Minister reiterated the need for continued efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, and for safeguarding freedom of navigation and commerce,” the Indian statement read.
