Ukraine's Planned Overnight Strikes on Targets Outside Special Military Op Zone Failed: MoD
16:25 06.07.2026 (Updated: 16:44 06.07.2026) Being updated
Ukraine deployed 625 long-range attack drones, 613 of which were shot down over Russian regions through the professional actions of Russia's Armed Forces.
Ukraine sought to demonstrate to its Western backers its ability to strike civilian infrastructure inside Russia using foreign-supplied weapons ahead if the NATO summit, Russia's Ministry of Defense said.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack targeted fuel and energy complex and logistics facilities in the Leningrad, Bryansk, Belgorod, Yaroslavl, Kaluga, and Kursk regions, as well as in Crimea.
The massive attack planned by Zelensky ahead of the NATO summit was thwarted by the professional actions of Russian Armed Forces personnel.
The desire of Ukraine's sponsors to increase the supply of UAVs and missiles produced in the EU and the UK will be countered by an increase in retaliatory strikes against Ukraine, the Ministry said.
"Any efforts by Western backers of Ukraine to ramp up deliveries of drones, missiles, and ammunition manufactured in Europe and the UK - along with their use of Zelensky to target civilian infrastructure in Russia - will be met with an appropriate escalation in both the frequency and intensity of Russian retaliatory strikes on Ukrainian territory," the statement read.
