India's semiconductor and space sectors will play an important role in the country's industrial transformation, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, calling for India to strengthen its global manufacturing presence and compete for a larger share of international markets.
Speaking at the Fourth National Conference on India's Industrial Transformation, organised by the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) and IDRA, Goyal said that as free trade agreements open up markets worldwide, India must expand its global reach and establish itself as a recognised manufacturing hub.
The minister also highlighted the importance of opening the space sector to private participation. He said India's space economy had the potential to reach $44 billion by 2033, while international partners were showing growing interest in cooperation with India in space, artificial intelligence, computing and startups.
Goyal stressed that India would continue to increase domestic manufacturing to meet a growing share of its own requirements, reinforcing the country's efforts to strengthen industrial capabilities and expand its role in global supply chains.
