Astrology platform Astrotalk's founder Puneet Gupta has announced an INR 1 Bln reward for the website's users if the Indian team managed to lift the Cricket World Cup trophy against Australia in Gujarat.
"Last time I had a few friends with whom I could share my happiness, but this time we have so many Astrotalk users who are more like friends, so I must do something to share my happiness with them," he said in a post on LinkedIn.
"So, this morning I spoke to my finance team and pledged to distribute ₹100 crore (INR 1 billion) to our users in their wallets if India wins the World Cup," Gupta added.
Cricket is like a religion in India and rewards like Gupta's are not so uncommon in the South Asian country.
For example, Indian billionaire Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, which operates in sectors such as aerospace, defense, farm equipment, construction equipment, real estate and retail, information technology, leisure and hospitality, and automobiles, is famous for sending cars as gifts to Indian sportspersons whenever they do well on the field.
Current members of India's World Cup squad, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj, received the Mahindra Group's flagship SUV Thar after their stellar performances in Australia in April 2021.
