Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the BRICS Summit in Kazan on 22-24 October, a senior Indian diplomat told Sputnik India on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.
"We are confident that Russia will host a successful Kazan summit when our leader Prime Minister Modi will also be participating (in the Summit)," stated Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) at India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the country's BRICS' Sherpa.
Moreover, India considers BRICS as a "reflection of a truly multipolar world", Ravi, heading the state's delegation at the group's Foreign Ministers' Meeting on 10-11 June, highlighted.
He then appreciated the intergovernmental group's meeting by the Russian presidency this year, noting that it have been organised with a "lot of attention".
"India is a good friend of Russia and we would like to work very closely with Russia for the success of the BRICS Chairmanship during the year," Ravi emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministers' Meeting is the first at the level of top diplomats since four new countries-Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – formally acceded to the grouping at the Johannesburg Summit last year.
Along with that nearly 15 guest countries also participated in the Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
