Since independence, Pakistan has maintained healthy ties with the US. However, it has grown closer to China in recent years, even describing Beijing as its all-weather friend.
Pakistan's interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has said that Islamabad has been unfairly treated by the West in the last three decades and was now only focused on securing its national interests without picking sides between the two geopolitical camps led by the US and Western European nations and China and Russia on the other.
"Pakistan in the last 30 years, has been treated unfairly by the West," Kakar said during his visit to New York, where he attended the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

West 'Over-Obsessed With China'

Pakistan's caretaker premier also underlined that the Western nations were "over-obsessed" with China.
In this context, Pakistan did not want to join a particular camp and was only keen to follow its own path.
Kakar emphasized that Islamabad had no interest in aligning with either China or the US in the great game of power politics.
"Why should we be worried about this competition. It's between two great powers, two great civilizations, and the implications [affect] 150-plus countries. And Pakistan is just one of them," the Pakistan PM commented.

Pakistan's 'Neutral' Stance on Ukraine Conflict

Furthermore, Kakar asserted that Pakistan had decided to stay "neutral" regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"This crisis is creating challenges and at the same time it is creating opportunities also within the region, and we are looking at it both ways," the Islamic sovereign state's leader elaborated about the Ukraine crisis.
Also, Kakar denied media reports that Islamabad was supplying weapons to Ukraine.
"We have not gone for any sale which was directly intended for Ukraine, not any sort of transactions, even through a third party," the Pakistan PM stressed.
