The Indian and Pakistani cricket teams are all set to meet on 14 October at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Ahmedabad as part of the World Cup.
As India has proved its supremacy over Pakistan in the cricket world cup by defeating it seven times in as many encounters, fans of both countries are geared up to witness the world's biggest cricketing rivalry on 14 October.
Pakistani fans are praying for their team's first victory over the “Men in Blue” (as the Indian team is usually known) whereas Indian fans are hopeful that their team will maintain their 100 percent record over the neighbours.
The tension which exists between the countries because of border disputes, takes on an altogether more intense affair on the cricket pitch. The border dispute has even resulted in disruptions of various tournaments.
Banter and heated moments are nothing new in any sport. But when it's India v Pakistan on the cricket ground the situation can become very tense as players are emotionally involved in the match too.
Sputnik India looks at some of the most famous contretemps between players of both sides:

Javed Miandad Mocks Kiran More

The two countries met at the World Cup stage for the first time in 1992. India managed a total score of 216 runs with the help of a 'half-century' by Sachin Tendulkar, 46 runs by Ajay Jadeja and a 'quick fire' 35 runs from Kapil Dev.
With a target of 217 runs, Pakistan was bowled out for 173. However, Pakistani batsmen Aamer Sohail and Javed Miandad who made 62 and 40 respectively resisted the team’s defenestration.
This match is famous for the fight which broke out between Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More and Miandad. It started with More appealing excessively against Miandad who initially ignored the tactic but then retaliated by mocking the wicket keeper.
Initially, Miandad complained to the umpire about More's trying to distract him by appealing so often but when this didn’t work, Miandad mocked More by jumping angrily at the batting crease.
The video of the incident is still watched by cricket fans all over the world.

Venkatesh Prasad Sends Aamer Sohail Back to Pavilion

Another intense moment between the two teams which has gone down in cricketing history occurred during their second encounter in the World Cup in 1996 when Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad and Pakistani batsman Aamer Sohail were involved in a heated moment.
In the match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India scored 287 runs with the help of Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 93 and a quick fire 25-ball 45 runs. Pakistan managed to score only 248 runs.
The heated moment between Prasad and Sohail came during the 15th over of the game when the Pakistani batsman hit a four off a ball bowled by Prasad. Sohail pointed at the bowler with his bat and said that he would do that again.
However, Sohail was in for an uncomfortable bit of karma and with the very next ball, the Indian bowler dismissed him by bowling him out and caused him to be sent off angrily.

Ugly Scenes Between Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir

The third time players of both teams were involved in a spirited exchange of views on the field was in 2007 when Pakistan was in India for a series.
In the third game of the five-match Test series played at Green Park stadium in Kanpur, India defeated Pakistan by 46 runs as India scored 294 runs and bowled the tourists out for 248.
Ugly scenes were witnessed during the 20th over when Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir smashed Pakistani bowler Shahid Afridi for a boundary and exchanged words. On the very next ball, Gambhir took a single and collided with Afridi on the way.
After completing the run, Gambhir and Afridi got into a row which had to be broken up on the field by the umpires.

Harbhajan Singh Hits a Six Off a Ball By Shoaib Akhtar

The fourth famous dispute between players of both teams came during the Asia Cup match played at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka in 2010.
India defeated Pakistan by three wickets as it chased a target of 267 in 49.5 overs with Indian batter Harbhajan Singh smashing the ball to the boundary with a six.
Before that, Singh and Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar had been involved in a verbal spat during the last ball of the 49th over.
After hitting the six, Singh celebrated his team's victory with a huge roar and gave Akhtar a stern look while Akhtar gestured for the player to go.

Verbal Spat Between Ishant Sharma and Kamran Akmal

During the T20 international match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma and Pakistani wicketkeeper and batsman Kamran Akmal engaged in a heated verbal spat.
The match was part of the last series played between the two countries in 2012. India had scored 133 runs in 20 overs and while chasing that target, Akmal missed a ball by Sharma in the 18th over.
After that, Sharma taunted Akmal and the Pakistani batter responded in a similar way. However, before the things could get out of control, other Indian players and the umpires stepped in and stopped them from getting physical and whaling the tar out of each other.
Though heated moments between players of both teams have been few and far between recently, with passions raised for the World Cup and everything to play for, fans are on the edge of their seats in case a mishap should set the fur flying.
