Global South Understands West's Economic Banditry: Lavrov
Russia and the Global South have been quite vocal about speaking against the West's hegemonic tendencies in the economic sphere.
The nations of the Global South are fully aware of the West's economic banditry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
The Eurasian country's top diplomat stated that sovereign states that are part of the Global South do not support the anti-Russian
measures of the Western world.
"Anti-Russian steps do not find support from the overwhelming majority of states in the Global South, from all those countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America that pursue an independent foreign policy course and are guided primarily by national interests," Lavrov said in his address to the Business Council that falls under the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The understanding is growing that absolutely no one is not immune from state banditry on the part of the collective West," the head of Russian diplomacy added.
Lavrov stressed that that's why several nations that are opposed to the West's state banditry have started using national currencies for trade purposes besides developing alternate payment platforms.
Moreover, he opined that there was an emphasis on developing international transport corridors caused due to the breakdown of
global supply chains.
"International transport corridors and production and supply chains are being created that are resistant to attempts by unfriendly countries to interfere with the implementation of mutually beneficial projects," Lavrov maintained.
Lavrov asserted that the Western countries would continue with their efforts to destroy Russia's economy because they wanted to throw it "to the sidelines of international life."
"It is clear that a real hybrid war has been unleashed against us. And one of its most important fronts is taking place in the economic sphere," he expressed.
"The cynicism is beyond the pale," Lavrov concluded.
