Sustainable Development Goals Will Succeed If India Succeeds: Indian Minister
India has been a vocal proponent of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as these have a direct impact on the countries of the Global South, whose voice it has championed of late.
Hardeep Singh Puri,
India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has emphasized that
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will only succeed if India
succeeds in achieving its goals.
"If India succeeds, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will succeed. And if the SDGs are to succeed, India has to succeed," he said in his speech at the UN Global Compact Network India's (UNGCNI's) convention on Friday.
"Outcomes in India will determine the outcomes of the world," he added.
The minister also highlighted the progress the South Asian country has made in accomplishing SDGs in the past 10 years.
Puri pointed out that the government's efforts paid rich dividends as more than 250 million people were taken out of "multidimensional poverty"
during this period.
He underlined that this was a "testament" to the government's thrust on inclusive growth.
