Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have been experiencing bitterness, at least in public, with both Asian nations taking constant swipes at each other over the issue of terrorism of late. However, they seem to be working on resolving their issues this week.
Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, Pakistan's envoy to Afghanistan, held a meeting with Kandahar governor Mohammad Shirin Akhund after he visited the influential Taliban* politician in the Central Asian country's south, local media reported on Tuesday.
The meeting between Akhund and Nizamani is significant, given that the former is known as a close aide to the Taliban's supreme leader Hebatullah Akhundzada.

Ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been witnessing headwinds over the issue of cross-border terrorism, with Islamabad repeatedly demanding Kabul take action against the proscribed Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP**), accused of carrying out a series of terrorist attacks in the neighboring sovereign state.

Last week, the Taliban said that it aspired to have good relations with the new Pakistan government headed by Shehbaz Sharif.
Recently, Sharif became Pakistan's Prime Minister for the second time after his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formed a coalition government with the help of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and other allies.
