Russia is one of India’s most time-tested and reliable partners, having helped the South Asian country during tense situations like the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. The two nations marked another milestone in their diplomatic ties this week.
Russian Ambassador to India,Denis Alipov congratulated India on the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations on Saturday.
"Warm greetings to India and all Indian friends on the auspicious occasion of the 77th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations with Russia! May the friendship between our two countries grow even stronger in the years to come! Jai Russia, Jai Hind!" Alipov wrote on X.
Interestingly, the bilateral equation between India and Russia seems to have gained noticeable momentum in the last two years, with New Delhi's trade ties with Moscow hitting record levels in 2023.
This happened in the wake of the imposition of unilateral economic sanctions on Russia by the West after the former launched its special military operation in Ukraine.
Upset by Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to "de-Nazify" Ukraine, the US and its Western allies severed economic ties with the Eurasian power in their bid to cripple its economy.
Against this background, India and Russia joined hands, assisting each other's economies through the expansion of trade.
While New Delhi's imports of Russian crude helped the world's largest democracy keep inflation in check, Moscow ploughed back billions into its economy through revenue generated through trade with India.
Last year, India and Russia registered trade volumes worth nearly $65 billion.
