Iran and launched large-scale drone, missile attack against Israel on Sunday, as Tehran responded to a deadly Israeli strike at its embassy in Damascus on 1 April.
India has said that it is “seriously concerned” at the escalation of hostilities between Iran and Israel which threatens peace and stability in the Middle East.

“We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Sunday morning.

“We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with Indian community,” the MEA noted.

Between 10,000-20,000 Indian citizens are present in Iran and Israel, according to official estimates. Further, the statement from New Delhi stressed that it was vital to maintain peace and security in the region.
A statement by Iranian foreign ministry said that Tehran carried out a series of military strikes against Israel’s military bases in exercise of its ‘right to self-defence’ under Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter.'
Tehran said that the direct strikes were in response to “recurring military aggressions” by Israel, partciularly to the Israeli strike at an Iranian Embassy's consular section in Syria on 1 April.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran would not hesitate to take further necessary defensive measures to protect its legitimate interests against any act of military aggression or unlawful use of force,” the Iranian statement said.

The Iranian Permanent Mission at the UN said that the matter could be deemed as "concluded" after the strikes, but warned Israel of a “considerably more severe” response if it made another "mistake".

Israel Says Intercepted Dozens of Missiles, Drones

Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Ministry (IDF) said in a statement that dozens of surface-to-surface missiles were launched towards the Israeli territory, with a "vast majority" of them being intercepted by the 'Air Defence Array' outside the borders.
