The Middle East appears to be on the brink of war following the assassination of the topmost official of Hamas and a senior commander of Hezbollah. The two groups are backed by Iran.
Pakistan on Friday rubbished Israeli media claims of supplying Shaheen-3 Missiles to Iran amid escalating tensions between the two Middle Eastern arch-foes.

"Such reports are patently false. Before paying any attention to such reports, it is important to reflect on the source behind such baseless reports and the malicious agenda behind them," Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told reporters in Islamabad. "This is a critical time in the Middle East. We, therefore, urge all parties, including the media, not to indulge in peddling of fake news."

Notably, the Middle East has been on the boil for the past 10 months after Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip to destroy the Palestinian military movement Hamas following the attack on the Jewish state last October.
However, tensions reached a tipping point after Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief of Hamas, was killed in an alleged Israeli strike in Tehran last month.
Since then Iranian officials, including the supreme leader Ali Khamenei have vowed revenge while the US, Israel's strongest ally, has sent warships and carrier battle groups to the region.
