Six Pakistan soldiers lost their lives in an exchange of fire with terrorists in the South Waziristan region of the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province bordering Afghanistan, the media arm of the country's military said on Tuesday.
Four militants were also killed after Pakistani soldiers retaliated to the attack, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The ISPR added that Pakistani forces had launched a search operation in the area to ensure no more terrorists were hiding there.
"Armed forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve," the statement elaborated.
Rising Incidents of Terrorism in Pakistan
The attack is the latest in a long list of such incidents the Islamic nation's security forces have experienced this year.
In January, Pakistan witnessed one of the recent terrorist strikes in recent memory when a suicide bomber detonated himself in a mosque located in Peshawar city, killing over 100.
Additionally, the headquarters of the Karachi attack came under attack from militants.
Islamabad has largely blamed the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)* for carrying out attacks on the country's troops and establishments.
Recently Pakistan warned Kabul of launching a military campaign in Afghanistan to flush out TTP radicals hiding there.
However, Afghanistan's ruling Taliban** has repeatedly denied the accusations.
* a terrorist organization banned in Russia and India.
* The Taliban is under UN sanctions for extremism.
