India Sent 38 Tonnes of Humanitarian Aid to Palestine: UNSC Ambassador
17:07 25.10.2023 (Updated: 18:50 25.10.2023) India has sent 38 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestinian people, including medicines and equipment since the Israel-Hamas war erupted, Ambassador Ravindra tells UNSC.
India has sent 38 tonnes of food and essential medical supplies to Gaza Strip residents in light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, India's Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador R. Ravindra, said.
At the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate on the "situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question," Ravindra spoke on the behalf of India.
Ravindra thanked the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for holding a frank discussion on the latest round of hostilities in the Middle East and expressed India's serious concern over the deteriorating security situation and significant civilian casualties caused by the ongoing conflict.
"The mounting
humanitarian crisis is equally alarming," Ravinder added.
Ravindra further highlighted India has supplied 38 tonnes of goods for the Palestinian people, including equipment and medication and encouraged the parties to work towards enabling peace and restarting direct negotiations, including de-escalating the situation and issuing threats of violence.
“The increase of our utilities in the region has
only aggravated the dire humanitarian situation," the Ambassador added.
In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the need for a ceasefire.
India strongly condemned the horrible
terrorist assaults in Israel on 7 October, the Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN has said. The Indian Prime Minister was one of the first world leaders to offer his condolences for the loss of life and "prayers for the innocent victims and their families".
“We stood in solidarity with Israel at their moment of crisis when they were facing these terror attacks,” said Ravindra.
Having said that, Ravindra also voiced profound astonishment at the
tragic deaths of several thousands of Palestine civilians at the Al Hali hospital in Gaza and expressed sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the injured to receive quick healing.
Ravindra added that Prime Minister Modi had also stated that those responsible for the strike 'must be held accountable', pointing out that civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a major and ongoing concern. Civilians, especially women and children, must be protected by all parties.
Ravindra also stressed the need to address the escalating humanitarian crisis and welcomed the efforts of the international community to defuse the situation and provide aid to the people of Gaza.
The Ambassador also reiterated India's support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, saying that it can result in the creation of a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine that coexists in peace with Israel within recognised borders while also taking into account Israel's legitimate security concerns.
Meanwhile, India's deputy permanent representative to the UN mentioned that in these difficult times, India will continue to give
humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine.
Ravindra also emphasised that India will continue to support the Palestinian people through bilateral development partnership, which is inclusive of health, education, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and information technology.
