Israel has been bombarding Gaza for more than a month, leaving over 11,000 people dead. Indian experts have blamed Tel Aviv's US-backed policy of expansionism for the current crisis.
With Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip resulting in thousands of civilians losing their lives, including women and children, two Indian academics and an Indian Army veteran have stated that the unfolding situation there is a result of the country's policy of encroaching on Palestinian land.
With Tel Aviv unleashing its full military might in the densely populated coastal enclave as Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conduct a three-pronged attack from land, sea, and air in their publicly announced goal of eliminating Hamas, the United Nations (UN) pointed out that Gaza was turning into a "graveyard" for children.

Anger Over Civilian Deaths in Gaza

Among the 11,000 reported deaths in Gaza, nearly 40 percent have been children, which seemed to have been whipping emotions in the Arab world, with several Muslim countries registering strong anti-Israel protests in recent days.
Against this backdrop, Dr Jawaid Iqbal, a former dean of the Faculty of International Studies at India's Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), noted that since the beginning of 2023, Israel has been continuing its policy of establishing "facts on the ground". This strategy was formulated after Israel annexed the West Bank and Gaza in 1967 during the Six Days War.
"As per this strategy, Israel should keep building settlements and increase the number of settlers on occupied Palestinian territory even as it purports to be negotiating with the Palestinians. With the construction of sufficient settlements, the pre-1967 borders could be erased once and for all," Iqbal told Sputnik India on Monday.

US Ignoring Israeli Settler-Colonialism

He stated that after the Oslo Accords of 1993 and 1995, the "Zionist-colonial expansionism of Israel" was concealed by the technocratic jargon of negotiation, which allowed the US to focus on secondary issues like security, economics, and state-building, to the detriment of the power asymmetry that prevailed between the colonized and the colonizer.
Iqbal underlined that by harping on a "two-state" solution, the goal of the US has been to ignore the one-state, undemocratic reality that prevails under Israeli settler-colonialism.
"Palestinians can ultimately be confined into disconnected and impoverished enclaves scattered over 15% of their country," the AMU professor added.
He asserted that in 2023, the US engaged in rhetorical criticism of settlement expansion in the "E1" area of the West Bank, which lies in the central West Bank, on the peripheries of Jerusalem. The E1 plan would divide the north of the West Bank from the south and the West Bank from East Jerusalem.
Furthermore, it would isolate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank by creating more Jewish settlements around it. As such, the E1 program would destroy any remaining territorial integrity that has functioned as a base for American fantasies of a two-state solution.
"The US would never resolutely oppose Israeli expansionism: annexation of the West Bank would only confirm the total impunity that Israel enjoys, thanks to the American empire," Iqbal stressed.

US-Israel Juggernaut Cannot Continue Its Annexationist Agenda

He opined that to avoid this unjust denunciation of the technocratic discourse in which Palestine has been embedded, Hamas launched its attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
In Iqbal's view, these attacks have politicized the Palestinian question, highlighting the fact that the US-Israel juggernaut cannot continue its annexationist agenda without significant costs.
Mohammad Sohrab, who is a faculty member at the Academy of International Studies in the New Delhi-based institution, Jamia Millia Islamia, agreed with Iqbal's remarks, highlighting that the US had always wanted for a long time to legalize Israel in the currently established borders, which in essence means legalizing Israel's expansion into Palestinian territories.
"Politics in Israel since its formal creation in 1948 and the politics for Israel by the US-led Western world has always been outside the ambit of moral, ethical, legal and constitutional means," Sohrab said in a conversation with Sputnik India.
He suggested that not only this, but even the UN functions accordingly, leading to the partition of Palestine to accommodate "settler colonialism" by dispossessing the indigenous people of Palestine. Because since the late 1940s, the UN and the West have been doing everything to legalize Israel through "settler colonialism" and territorial expansionism.

No Full Stop to Israeli Actions in Palestinian Territory

Sohrab mentioned that the West's support of Israel and its policy of expansionism through Palestinian dispossession seemed to be being carried out without any kind of "full stop."
He expressed that their objective has always been to provide every kind of legality to the Israeli actions and based on delegitimizing every kind of action on the part of disposed and colonized people.

"Additionally, the other objective is to portray how Palestinians are violent and "Satanic" in nature that they attacked the Israeli people where they were indulging in religious activities on 7 October. In fact, it is not new for the Western world to demonize Palestinians because it has been happening for decades," the Jamia academician elaborated.

For the uninitiated, Israelis were celebrating the Jewish festival of Shabbat on the day Hamas carried out its brutal attack on the nation.

Israeli Brutality in Gaza 'Unprecedented'

On the other hand, Major General (Retd) A.P.S. Chauhan, a veteran of the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war, who has closely monitored Israeli actions in the last six decades, described the current situation in Gaza as heart-rending, and horrific.
He emphasized that the Israeli brutality on civilians in Gaza was unprecedented in scale. Chauhan remarked that it was a gargantuan loss of innocent lives, preponderously women, young, and children in tens of thousands, many buried in their confined and ghettoed existence, as Palestinian refugees for over six decades.
Chauhan enunciated that the Palestinians have been awaiting a homeland when once this very land was theirs till the British evicted them to settle Jews from Europe in the 40s under the Balfour Declaration after WWI which gave license to snatch and grab land for Jews encouraged by Churchill.

Gaza Turning Into Another Dresden

"The fuse for today's explosion was lit more than a century ago. Today's Gaza is being reduced to rubble as they were treated during the saturation bombing of the historic city of Dresden by the US Air Force in 1944 when millions of German civilians were killed as they were in Gaza," he informed Sputnik India.
The former Indian Army officer affirmed that Israel has turned Gaza into a "concentration camp" with the total seizure of the city, which only aggravates and smokescreens the long pending issue that has caused cascading bloodletting between Arabs and Jews for which Israel and Anglo-Saxons are directly responsible.
"This was no way to destroy Hamas but would only breed more by many names turning it into a heroic icon. Ironically, Hamas was virtually raised and funded by Israel and the US, which again explains the duplicitous policy of the West to fool the world," Chauhan, who presently serves as the president of the All-India ex-Soldiers League, an umbrella body of retired Indian troops, concluded.
