Armenia Could Act as Bridge Between India & Iran: Deputy FM
India and Iran have emphasised Armenia’s involvement in a new transnational transport corridor through the Black Sea.
The ambassadors of Iran and India to Armenia emphasised on Tuesday the significance of Yerevan's participation in a new transnational transport corridor that their nations are planning.
Mehdi Sobhani, the Iranian envoy, stated at an international conference in Yerevan, "We believe that the communication corridor from India to the Iranian port of Chabahar and on to Armenia and further north, the Black Sea, is a reliable route for transporting goods to the north and Europe. The development of this path will protect our countries against external harm".
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan stated that Armenia could act as a bridge between India, Iran, and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states.
Meanwhile, in 2021, the Armenian government proposed that cargo shipments from India be routed through Chabahar to Europe, Russia, and neighbouring Georgia.
Indian Ambassador to Armenia
Nilakshi Saha Sinha during her speech at the conference said "We are ready to work with
Armenia to understand how the country can benefit from the opportunities of this corridor".
Armenia has strengthened its relations with India in the last few years, particularly through numerous agreements it has signed with
Indian arms manufacturers, and it has long maintained friendly relations with Iran.
