By providing a second tranche, India has fulfilled its annual contribution of US $5 million for the year 2023–2024 to support the main programmes and services of the UN agency.
India has fulfilled its annual pledge of US $5 million for the year 2023–24 by releasing the second tranche amounting to US $2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) on Thursday, amid the continued conflict in Gaza.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) received US$2.5 million from India in November, marking a significant step towards peace during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

India's Representative to the State of Palestine, Renu Yadav, handed over the donation to Karim Amer, UNRWA's Director of Partnerships, during a ceremony held at the organisation's West Bank Field Office in Jerusalem. The purpose of this funding contribution is to support UNRWA's vital initiatives, which include relief, social assistance, healthcare, and education for Palestinian refugees.

Speaking at the ceremony, India’s Representative underlined the government's steadfast support for UNRWA's operations in the area, reiterating India's continuous position on de-escalation in the Gaza Strip and the prompt delivery of humanitarian relief.

India's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, reaffirmed the country's message in an informal meeting during the UN General Assembly on November 20, the media revealed.

India supports international initiatives aimed at reducing the intensity of the war and making sure that the Palestinian people receive critical humanitarian aid.

Speaking on behalf of UNRWA, Karim Amer offered his gratitude for the steadfast assistance provided by India. This financial commitment serves as a testament to India's strategic engagement in international initiatives aimed at alleviating the ongoing humanitarian disaster from the Israel-Hamas conflict. Moreover, it affirms India's dedication to promoting regional stability and peace while bolstering UNRWA's capacity to address the immediate requirements of Palestinian refugees.
