A senior Indian diplomat has said that issues such as tariffs, cross-border terrorism, supply chains and technology divide among others demanded urgent global attention.
India has called for enhanced international cooperation to counter tariff volatility, anti-globalisation sentiments and non-market practices.
Addressing the Minsk III Conference on Eurasian Security in the Belarusian capital on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (West) Ambassador Sibi George stated that the global energy landscape, supply chains and balance of trade have been undergoing profound transformations in recent times. The Indian diplomat noted that global trade and assumptions were being "reshaped" due to the geopolitical factors at play.
"The global energy landscape, supply chains and the balance of trade are undergoing profound transformations, while transactional formalities are altering the nature of global finance in many facets," George said, expressing India's views on pressing regional and global issues.
He added that competition for rare earths and critical minerals has emerged as a "significant factor" in global politics.

George said that the global ongoing churn carries “strategic implications” and has been compelling nations to minimise risks due to “over dependence on limited supply sources of a single market”.

"This reality underscores the compelling need for enhanced international cooperation to ensure economic stability and resilience," the Indian diplomat said.

The remarks come against the backdrop of US tariffs and President Donald Trump's pressure on India to cut down its energy purchases from Russia, New Delhi's largest supplier of crude. Besides the 25% tariff on its US-bound exports, New Delhi also faces an additional 25% tariff for buying Russian oil. Last week, Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal also criticised the latest US sanctions against Rosneft for singling out India while providing exemptions for Germany and the United Kingdom (UK).
"The deliberations of today are taking place in a rapidly shifting geopolitical situation where the world confronts a multitude of pressing challenges from conflict situations to climate change to an urgent need for resilient supply chains. The complexity of the international situation is further compounded by challenges such as technology divide, trade and tariff disputes & the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism," George told the conference.
In his address, the Indian Ambassador also thanked the countries who extended their condolences to India following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, while calling for condemning countries who employ cross-border terrorism as a "state policy.
The conference on Eurasian security was attended by top diplomats, officials and experts from over 30 countries, a list that included Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui as well as senior officials from China, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia among others.
