Importantly, official sources indicated that the SCO is likely to adopt a joint communique at the Tianjin Summit, with India's concerns over terrorism likely to be reflected in the outcome document.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries will discuss "weaponization of trade" and "energy security" at the upcoming Council of Heads of State (CHS) Meeting in Tianjin on 31 August-1 September, according to official sources.

Both the issues are likely to figure in the Joint Communique at the conclusion of the SCO Summit on 1 September, they said. However, sources also underlined that there won't be any "direct" reference to US tariffs in the Joint Communique. They said that the broader global trade situation will be discussed during the SCO Summit as well as during the bilateral meetings which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding on the margins of the Tianjin Summit.

As of now, details of Prime Minister Modi's bilateral engagements on the margins of SCO Summit aren't available.
The discussions on these issues within the Eurasian politico-security grouping assumes significance amid US tariffs on various nations. India faces a 25% tariff rate on its imports entering the US, which is expected to increase to 50% from 9:30 AM on 27 August once additional tariffs over New Delhi's purchases of Russian crude kick in. China, on the other hand, faces a 54% tariff rate, but has been given a 90-day moratorium on further tariff imposition amid ongoing US-China trade negotiations.
The US ranks as the biggest trading partner of both India and China.
At a special briefing by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal informed reporters that PM Modi will arrive in Tiajin from Japan on 31 August.

"The program elements for the upcoming 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin include a welcome banquet dinner on the evening of 31st August, and the main summit will be held on the next day, Monday, 1 September. Prime Minister is expected to hold some bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the SCO Summit," Lal stated.

The senior Indian diplomat said that security cooperation to counter terrorism, particularly cross-border terrorism in India's context, remains one of the "most important" areas of cooperation for India. He noted that Secretary-General of SCO RATS, Nurlan Yermekbayev, had visited India this year and held "useful discussions"
"The SCO was established with the primary goal of countering three evils of terrorism, separatism and extremism, which continue to remain a challenge," Lal said.
Lal said that other priority areas for India within the SCO were reflected in the acronym 'SECURE' coined by PM Modi at the 23rd SCO Summit. He said that 'SECURE' stood for "security, economy and trade, connectivity, unity, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and environment".
The SCO comprises 10 members- India, Russia, China, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Prime Minister Modi is undertaking a two-nation visit to Japan and China starting 29 August. In Japan, PM Modi and Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba will co-chair the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. From Tokyo, the Indian leader will embark on the next leg of his visit to China.
